Seeds

The Origen of the Senses

Chile is one of the main seed producers in the world, a fact that has encouraged major seed-producing firms to start local seed multiplication operations. Thus, large seed corporations have started to operate in Chile taking advantage of its counter-seasonal features (primarily for corn and sunflower seeds) to speed up the introduction of new varieties in the Northern Hemisphere.

The experience of Chilean firms, plus ideal temperature conditions i.e. cold winters with plenty of cold hours plus dry, hot summers and the country's modern irrigation systems, guarantee that the resulting seeds will be excellent in terms of their physiological and sanitary conditions.

Pansy and violet seeds account for over 70 percent of the exported flower seed value and Chile produces more than 50 percent of the world's demand for both species.

Corn seeds have penetrated strongly into the United States and the European Union. Second in importance and with potential for growth are the seeds of tomatoes, melons, watermelons, onions, lettuce, green and red peppers, carrots, and beetroots
