National Commission for Good Agricultural Practices
Good agricultural practices (GAP) are the actions involved in the production, processing, and transporting of products of agricultural and animal origin, oriented to safeguard the product, the environment, and the people who produce it. In the case of agricultural and livestock products, it also involves the animal's well-being.
The Ministry of Agriculture created the National Commission for Good Agricultural Practices in 2001, an entity of private and public coordination whose goal is to advise the Ministry on the outlining of policies addressed to incorporate the concept of GAP into the agricultural and animal production processes of our country.

One of the tasks accomplished by the National Commission for Good Agricultural Practices has been the development of Technical Specifications for Good Agricultural Practices for many agricultural and animal products. They define the characteristics required for a product and the process of its production in order to fulfill the established criteria on good agricultural practices. As such, they serve as references for those producers interested in implementing GAP.
The Commission has created various Technical Committees, with members of both the public and private sectors, who have discussed and agreed upon the GAP technical specifications according to international criteria as well as to the reality of the Chilean agricultural and animal production.
The technical specifications of GAP so far developed are the following:
