Main Sectors: Dairy Products
Purity in the South of the World
Twenty-eight countries buy dairy products from Chile, with American markets as the main destination points. This industry has low production costs and high sanitary requirements and integration throughout the value chain.
Chile is one of the few Latin American countries that have been free of foot and mouth disease for the past 20 years. However, the country is seriously concerned about eliminating any potential disease. There is a certification program for farms free of bovine tuberculosis and brucellosis that involves setting apart milk from certified farms to be sent to foreign markets. In addition, abundant rains encourage the constant growth of grass throughout the year.
The Agriculture and Livestock Service has implemented a Contingency Plan involving producers, proces sors, public agencies and the population in general. All stakeholders are highly aware and actively involved in positioning Chile as a producer of high quality and safe dairy products.
